Orlam
Introduction This year for my birthday Fiona bought me the new PJ Harvey album "I Inside The Old Year Dying" and then found that there was a linked book "Orlam" so I got that as well. I love everything that Polly Jean does, even though I don't have everything she has done.

XVAR
Introduction The letters “VAXR” came into my head and I thought how could that be a story? I then rearranged them to “XVAR” because I thought that VAXR was close to Vaxxer and that might cause ructions with COVID anti-vaxxers. However, I think everyone who can be safely vaccinated should be vaccinated, I know so many people who have been affected by and frightened by the effects of COVID that I believe I should do everything I can to stop the spread of the virus, but that is way off the target of this piece of fiction. However, the end could be the same.

The War Dragon. Content Warning.
Introduction This is an ekphrastic pantoum inspired by the image below that contains references to the First World War. In my poem, I weave observations on the painting with thoughts about that terrible conflict.

Follow You Follow Me
Introduction I was out walking, which often inspires me to write things and the Genesis song “Follow You Follow Me” popped into my head. It was their first album as a trio, Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett having walked, but I still bought it on the basis of “Follow You Follow Me” and the opening song “Down and Out” but I was hugely disappointed. The rest of the album was just boring, but those two songs showed that there was a spark still there and the rest of their musical career did throw up some surprisingly good songs. As usual, I have digressed and gone off track so now down to the business of what I was going to talk about.

The Memes Of Ruby And The Mystery Cats
I have only met Caroline Wilkinson once, she was performing at the Cluny 2 playing an Iggy Pop song but she is also Ruby of Ruby and the Mystery Cats, a red hot rockabilly rock and roll combo vaguely located around Tyneside.

The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads
In 2001 Lift To Experience released their debut album “The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads”. It’s playing as I write this. I read a review of the album in some magazine. It was album of the week or month but was filled with superlatives about the album.
